About the position
We are constantly striving towards further optimizing our processes for existing and future powders, to get as competitive powder as possible. The PM Material Development group within the EMT section has the assignment to develop new and innovative powder material and process solutions for PM component applications. The development work is run in close collaboration with other parts of the EMT section like PM Business Development and Product Management as well as other parts of the Höganäs Group and with frequent interaction with external partners (customers, OEM's, universities etc.). Specifically for this position the candidate will work in close collaboration with Luleå University of Technology (LTU) and will have the opportunity to perform an industrial Ph.D on a subject related with the company’s strategic targets. This PhD is funded by the Wallenberg Initiative Material Science for Sustainability (WISE). The main task of this position is to drive material development and characterization work for PM steel applications as well as communicating new findings in the department and within the Höganäs Group. You will also support the Höganäs Group and customers with material and processing recommendations for new and existing applications. The work will be performed at Höganäs’ production sites in Höganäs.

Your profile
We are looking for you who has good knowledge in Metallurgy and Material Science and at least 2 years of experience in alloy/application development work. Suitable education is a Master of Science, or an equivalent degree in Material Science preferably specialized in steel metallurgy, in material characterization, testing, and alloy design software. As a Material Development Engineer you are analytic and structured and have a genuine technical interest. You are a team player and are eager to share your experiences and knowledge. You are also responsible to initiate, plan and drive material development and characterization activities in accordance with the goals of the company. Cooperation with the sites in Sweden as well as on an international level with suppliers and subsidiaries requires you to have excellent skills in speech and writing in both Swedish and English.

About the position
We are looking for an engineer to drive materials development forward for surface coating applications, applying Integrated Computational Materials Engineering (ICME) in one of our product areas, Surface and Joining Technologies (SJT). Focus is on developing our capabilities related to our existing Höganäs Integrated Computational Materials Engineering (HICME). 

In this position you will work in close collaboration with our customers to create new alloying concepts for both existing and new applications, while also focusing on future materials trends and portfolio gaps. Additionally, you initiate and lead material development projects and also supporting customers and sales in technical questions regarding materials. You will work in an international team which also interface to Höganäs internal departments such as Application Development, Marketing, Business Development and Operations.

The position will be placed at one of Höganäs’ locations in either Sweden or Germany, depending on the candidate’s location.

Your profile

• A Ph.D. or Master of Science in Materials Engineering (or similar) is mandatory.
• You have excellent knowledge about Integrated Computational Materials Engineering (ICME) & CALPHAD methodology for predicting thermodynamic, kinetic and other properties of multi-component material systems.
• You have excellent knowledge of Themo-calc, DICTRA, PRISMA, Software Development Kits (SDKs) and specifically Python™ language-based SDK called TC-Python. You are able to write, modify and maintain scripts related to calculations of large amounts of alloys and build analyses to interpret the data produced by the scripts.
• Besides having programing skills and being innovative, it is of great importance that you are a result-oriented team player with problem-solving capabilities as well as great communicational- and collaborative skills.
• Fluently in English is a requirement.

About the position
We are looking for a passionate Senior Engineer with deep process, coating, and application knowledge and practical experience in the field of Laser Cladding to drive Application Development at Höganäs Surface and Joining Technologies. You support customers and sales in all technical questions regarding applications, processes, materials portfolio, material selection, parameter recommendation, and complaints. Additionally, you identify new applications, future technology trends, and portfolio gaps, initiate and manage respective development projects and further translate development results into new materials offerings and coating solutions. Presenting our portfolio, new materials, and coating solutions to customers at technical meetings, conferences and exhibitions is another important task in this role.

In this position, you work in international teams and act as the technical interface between our customers and prospects on the one hand and internal departments at Höganäs on the other hand.

This position will be hired in Höganäs, Sweden or Laufenburg, Germany. 

Your profile
With an M.SC or equivalent in mechanical engineering or material science, you have the right background for this position. Hands-on experience with Laser Cladding is merit, ideally supported with an IWE (International Welding Engineer) degree. You are able to link your excellent materials knowledge especially in metallic alloys with application requirements and coating properties.

While the main focus is on Application Development with Laser Cladding theoretical and practical expertise in PTA welding and ideally also in thermal spraying (e.g. HVAF/HVOF) is desirable in order to cover all technical aspects of our surface coating material and solution offering.

You are an innovative and result-oriented team player, well organized, and like to drive strategic technical approaches towards key customers and present new solutions. You have the right communication skills for the interface function between your customers and prospects and the relevant internal departments.

Project management and good problem-solving capabilities are also considered valuable skills in the position. National and international traveling to our customers is required.
